Genetically Modified Foods or (GMO)

It would have also banned using the word “natural” on products that contained GMOs. So what exactly are GMOs anyways? Basically some scientists got together and discovered that by artificially manipulating the DNA of natural food products, they could grow plumper fruits and vegetables in a shorter amount of time. It also creates internal pesticides in the produce that will kill bugs. Yes, that’s right; the produce has the ability to kill pesticides on its own! Sounds yummy right? It may sound like something out of a science fiction movie, but GMO’s are placed in nearly 80 percent of all processed foods. Proposition 37 was simply asking that food manufactures place “Contains GMOs” on their labeling. Is that too much to ask that as consumers we have the right to choose whether or not we want to put these sketchy chemicals in our bodies? Apparently, because the proposed law was rejected in last Tuesday’s election.
The fight to require the labeling of GMO’s is a good reminder for all of us of the importance of taking high-quality vitamins and supplements. In addition to these lab-altered foods, most Americans are also consuming meats with added hormones, processed foods loaded with preservatives, and because of modern agricultural methods our soils are depleted of nutrients. Even by eating organic and avoiding processed foods, we can’t rely on our food sources to give us a sufficient amount of nutrients needed to keep us healthy and protect us against disease.
